Discussion: Although the Communications Committee does not have the exact
number of visitors in 2011 that number can be obtained. It is important that the
committee know this figure in order to judge their success or failure at achieving this
year’s goal to increase the number of visitors to UUCDC. In addition there are some
assumptions the committee used in developing this goal which need to be considered.
The first assumption is that an increase in new visitors will lead to an increase in new
members to the church. The second is that UUCDC’s geographic market area has
minimal awareness of the “Good News” of Unitarian Universalism. Communication
of this message in a positive manner is an inherent assumption in all of the above
brainstorming ideas. Do not be afraid of “evangelizing” (relaying information about a
particular set of beliefs).

Recommendations: The above list needs to be organized and prioritized and a
communications plan developed with specific action steps that are measurable so the
committee can modify its programs depending on results. Each action step needs to be
assigned to a person or persons who will execute that portion of the communications
plan. In addition some methodology for the committee as a whole is needed to
monitor progress periodically over time in order to be able to refine any action plans
that may not be working properly.
